Waynetown, Ind. - Mrs. Lena Coon, 84, of Wingate, Ind. rural route, died at 9 p.m. last night (Feb. 10, 1967) at her home. She had been in ill health for three years. Born Feb. 6, 1883 in Montgomery County, north of Crawfordsville, she was the daughter of Jonathan W. P. and Sabina Grim Thompson. March 18, 1908 she was married at her parents' home to Clifford V. Coon, who survives. Also surviving are a son, David of Wingate Route 1; a sister, Mrs. Binna Sarver of Crawfordsville and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, five brothers and five sisters. She had lived at the Wingate address for 57 years and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church of Wingate. She taught Sunday School at her church for 55 years, and was a member of the Ladies Guild and the Elmdale Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Coon was educated in the Montgomery County schools and graduated from Crawfordsville High School Mrs. Coon also taught school before her marriage. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church at Wingate, with the Rev. Scott Comrie officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The body is at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown where friends will be received after 4 p.m. today. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the heart fund. - - Wingate - Mrs. Lena Inez Coon, 83, died Friday night at her home near Elmdale. She had been in ill health the past two years. A daughter of Jonathan W. P. and Sabina Graham Thompson, she was born Feb. 6, 1883, in Coal Creek Township. Mrs. Coon received her education in Montgomery County schools and in Crawfordsville High School. She was a teacher until 1908 when she married Clifford Van Coon March 18 at her parents' home. A member of the pleasant Hill Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for 55 years, Mrs. Coon also was active in the Ladies Guild and the Elmdale Home Economics Club. Survivors include her husband; a son, David of Rt. 1 Wingate; a sister, Binna Sarver of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Preceding Mrs. Coon in death were two infant daughters, five brothers and five sisters. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church with Rev. Scott Comrie officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday until 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. The family requests that donations to the Heart Fund be made in lieu of flowers.

Wingate - Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Coon were held Sunday afternoon at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church with the pastor, Rev. G. S. Comrie, officiating. The requested hymn, "Asleep in Jesus," was played on the organ by Mrs. Hal Hopper, who also accompanied Mrs. Ruth Cunningham, Mrs. Lucinda Goode and Mrs. Richard Cheek as they sang "Abide With Me." Carrying the floral tributes were Lynn Coon, Linda Switzer, Betty Williams, Esther Henry, Mary Coon, Paula Jollif, Edna Brown, Ruby Ralston and Helen Rutledge. The pallbearers were nephews, Claude Coon, Clifford Coon, Eugene Coon, Francis Coon, Richard Coon, Harold Thompson, Earl Nelson and Hugh Williams. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. - - Card of Thanks - We wish to thank our friends and neighbors for their helpfulness and kindness during the illness and death of our wife and mother, Lena Coon, also for the flowers, food and heart fund gifts.
