New Market - Dorpha S. Coons, 83, died at 7:05 p.m. Saturday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville where she was taken Aug 12 after suffering a stroke. A native of Boone County, she was born near Shannondale July 14, 1881 to William and Miriam E. Caldwell. She married Harry A. Coons Dec 7, 1905 in Crawfordsville. He died Nov 23, 1954. Mrs. Coons was an active member of the Freedom Baptist Church where services are announced for 2 p.m.. Tuesday with Rev. Lowell Mitchell officiating and burial in Freedom Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church for an hour preceding the services. Friends may call at the Noble Reeves Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Monday. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lael Patton, son - in - law, Sam T. Patton and two grandchilren, all of near Waveland and nieces and nephews. Precednig Mrs. Coons in death besides her husband were 3 sisters. - kbz
