Elizabeth J. Busenbark COONS

Elizabeth J. Coons, daughter of Emmons and Anna L. Busenbark, was born near Hannibal, Missouri, October 17, 1859, and departed this life April 15, 1922, aged 62 years, 5 months and 28 days. She was united in marriage to George W. Coons Nov. 30, 1879. To this union was born one son, Merle F. Coons.

She united with the Old Salem Baptist Church in the year 1880 or 1881, under preaching by Rev. J.B. Porter. Early after the organization of the New Market Baptist Church she and her husband united with that church where Lizzie remained a loyal, devoted member till death. To her, her home and the church were very sacred institutions. She loved her home, she loved her church.

The writer of this sketch has known the deceased from her childhood, has enjoyed the hospitality of her home frequently and she always manifested a genial, kind, Christian spirit, so unpretentious and unassuming, like the spirit of the lowly Nazarene. We believe a good woman is one of the noblest works of God´s creation and we believe she was surely one of these. She was not only a kind, loving and devoted mother in her home, but for two or three years was a mother in the home of her brother, R.C. Busenbark, during the time of sad bereavement, and was truly a benediction and blessing in this home of orphan children. This possibly is doubly true of Lavina. The sweetest words ever spoken by mortal tongue are mother, home, and heaven.

The deceased leaves to mourn their loss a dear, loving husband, a beloved and truly devoted son, Merle F. Coons, and his wife, Clara Coons, and grandson, Harold Coons; one brother, R.C. Busenbark, a sister-in-law, besides a great number of very near and dear relatives and friends and neighbors. Lizzie has only left the church militant to join the church triumphant, only vacated her pleasant earthly home to go to that home not made with hands.
