Hattie Ellen COONS, daughter of Benjamin EASLEY and Sarah F. Whittington Easley, was born September 16, 1876 and departed this life July 6, 1922, aged 45 years, 9 months and 20 days. She was united in marriage to Frank E. Coons Feb 23, 1902 and leaves an adopted son, James age 10. She united with the Freedom Baptist Church at the age of 16, and lived a faithful and devoted member until moving to Big Cabin, Oklahoma, where she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church, her husband uniting with this church where they enjoyed together the blessings and fellowship of this church for about 7 years. When they moved to Boliver, MO they cast their lots with the First Baptist Church, living very happily together enjoying very precious fellowship for about 18 months, when they moved back to Indiana. She, with her husband, transferred their membership to Freedom Church, which she loved most dearly and devotedly and where she enjoyed the sweetest fellowship of the members!, but her failing health deprived her during the last 18 months of her life of attending services, which she much desired to do. S he often came when it seemed when was unable and where many of us under like conditions would have remained at home. Hattie certainly proved her loyalty, reverence and love for the church. Not only was she devoted to the church, but her devotion, loyalty and love of her home could not be excelled and scarcely equaled. She possessed in a large degree those fine Christian graces which make a noble woman and fit her for a home in heaven. Hattie was not unmindful of her serious affliction, and that she might be suddenly called in death, consequently she left a note in writing in which she made known some of her wishes. One was that the song, "Sometimes We'll Understand," be sand at her funeral. Hattie has only left the church militant below to join the church triumphant above; only left her dear ones here to be united with the great host of dear! ones gone before; only left her pleasant earthly home and dear ones t o go to that home not made with hands. She leaves to mourn their loss a loving company, an adopted son, one sister, Mary Green Davis, three aunts, Sarah K. Rice and Lucinda F. Rice, sisters of her father and Lucy Ellen Whittington, sister of her mother, and three uncles, James L. Whittington, Rus D. Whittington and George W. Whittington, brothers of her mother, and host of other near relatives and friends. Her mother preceded her in death April 22, 1886 and father April 28, 1918.

MRS. FRANK E. COONS DIES FOLLOWING OPERATION
Mrs. Frank E. Coons, whose home was two and a half miles south of New Market, passed away this morning at 8 o’clock at Culver hospital following a second operation for gallstones, which was performed Wednesday.
Mrs. Coons was 46 years old and is survived by her husband, an adopted son, and one sister, Mrs. Harry Davis, of New Market. She was a member of the Baptist Church at Freedom.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Hattie Coons, wife of Frank E. Coons, who lives two and one-half miles west of New Market, died at Culver Union Hospital yesterday morning at 8:00 o'clock following a second operation for gallstones, which was performed Wednesday. Mrs. Coons was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. She was 48 years old. She was the daughter of Benjamin Easley and Sarah E. Whittington, born Sept 16, 1876 and died July 6, 1922. She married Frank Coons Feb 23, 1902. He survives with an adopted son, James and one sister, Mrs. Harry Davis of New Market, with the exception of a few years spent in Oklahoma, Mrs. Coons had lived in Montgomery County all of her life. She was born on the farm across the road from her late residence. She was a widely known and highly respected woman.
