Services Conducted From Daughter's Home - Mr. Coons Had Long Been Resident of County. Funeral services for James M. Coons, whose death occurred Saturday morning at Wingate, were held at 2 Monday afternoon from the home of the deceased's daughter, Mrs. Jonathan VanCleave, at Wingate. The services were in charge of Rev. B.E. Antrobus, pastor of the First Baptist Church of this city. Burial was at Wingate.

Mr. Coons was the son of George and Julia Coons and was born January 27, 1826, in Overton county, Tennessee. In 1830 he came with his parents to this county, when they settled on a farm six miles southwest of Crawfordsville. Later his parents moved to this city where they resided until their death. The deceased's mother was ninety years old when death claimed her.

James M. Coons was married to Sarah VanCleave, whose death occurred twenty-two years ago. They moved to Crawfordsville, twenty-five years ago, Mrs. Coons dying after they had lived here three years. Since that time the deceased has made his home with his children, of whom there are four. They are George Coons, of near New Market; Levi Coons, of two miles south or Crawfordsville; Mrs. Charles Francis or Englewood, and Mrs. Jonathan VanCleave, at whose home Mr. Coons died.

The deceased was one of a family of six children, only one of whom, William Coons, now survives. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and was a man who held the respect and regard or all who knew him.

James M. COONS, aged 90 died Saturday morning at 4 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jonathan VanCleave in Wingate, where he was making his home; after an illness of a week; caused by a stroke of paralysis from the effects of which he gradually declined. Until this last illness Mr. Coons was in his usual health and for a man of his age was pretty rugged. The funeral will occur from the home of his daughter in Wingate this afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. BE Antrobus, of this city. The burial will be in Wingate. James M COONS was the son of George and Julia Coons. He was born in Tennessee Jan 27, 1826 and moved with his parents to this county in 1830 being a continuous resident of Montgomery County since that time. His parents settled on land 5 miles sw of the city and during Mr. Coons' active life was a farmer on the home place. After retirement he removed to this city to reside, his home being in Englewood on East Main Street. The deceased was a good man of quiet demeanor and Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his wife several years ago, since which time he has made his home with his daughters, Mrs. Mary VanCleave of Wingate and Mrs. Laura Francis of this city, and two sons, George of New market and Levi of two miles south of the city and one brother, William J. Coons, of this city who is 82.
