Olive D. Coons, daughter of Francis J. and Nancy E. Coons, was born October 9, 1887; departed this life October 12. 1908, aged 21 years and 4 days. She united with the Christian church at New Market January 14, 1902, under the preaching of A.W. Conner. He gave her life text, I John, 3:7, “Little children, let no man deceive you; he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.” And by the help of this text she never wavered in her duty to her Master. Being overtaken by that dreaded disease, consumption, the last few months of her life was a time of great suffering, which she bore with the sweetest patience. Her parents and friends did everything in their power and she never failed to answer “It’s all right,” and always greeted each one with a smile, and when she knew that her time was growing short she called her parents and friends around the bed and kissed each one good-bye and said tell her friends all good-bye. She said she was not afraid to meet death. She said the way was clear and everything looked bright to her. She held up these poor little hands and said these hands have done all they can for Jesus and waved her hand in a final good-bye. Her life has been a living testimony to Jesus. She leaves a father, mother, one sister and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. But their loss is her eternal gain.
