WILLIAM JAMES COONS

Source: ? Newspaper -- obviously a Crawfordsville one (died 21 Sept 1921)

William J. Coons, 86, committed suicide Tuesday night by swallowing carbolic aid and was found dead in his room at the home of Noble Dean, W. Main Street, early this morning. Two months ago he had suffered a stroke of paralysis and had been despondent over his ill health since that time. In a letter addressed to Proffitt & Sons, undertakers and his daughter, Mrs. Joe Layson, of this city, the deceased gave detailed instructions as to his funeral ceremonies. He described the matter in which wished to be dressed and gave a minute description of the services he wished to be used at his funeral. The funeral will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Layson where he had taken his meals for some time and the services will be in charge of Rev. Odell. The burial will take place at Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Coons, who was born in Tennessee, spent practically his whole life in Montgomery County. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Sarah Coons and Mrs. Joe Layson and four grandchildren, Everett, Wallace, LeRoy and Mildred Layson.
