Coffee - John W

Source: Crawfordsville Star 9 July 1885 p 6

The Thorntown Argus had the following lie out of the whole cloth last Saturday: “John W. Coffee, the crank on confessions now in jail at Crawfordsville, “set up” the strawberries last Sunday to his fellow prisoners and is daily feasting on these delicasies. The Sheriff was curious to know how he made the raise, as he had not a cent. An investigation revealed the fact that he had sold his body to a prominent physician for dissection; he received $50 for his carcass.”

Note: If the author of the above gets out of a job we will use our influence to get him a place on the Review as this eclipses any effort ever made by the best lair on our esteemed contemporary.

Another excitement by Coffee’s confessions and no telling what innocent parties will be brought into the murder of the McMullens. The opinion of most people here is that Coffee should be hung for lying until half dead and then he might tell the truth.
