Waynetown - William Lawson Combs, 88, former resident and building contractor, died late Thursday evening at the home of his son, William Layton Combs, in Hartford City. He had been in failing health for two years. Born Oct 8, 1870 in Rossville, Ill he was the son of Aller R. and Rachel Liggett Combs. His mother died when he was a child and he was reared in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Merrell of Waynetown. On Nov 11, 1 891, he married Amanda Jane Johnson at Waynetown. Mrs. Combs died in 1944.

He was a member of the Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge and OES of Waynetown. Mr. Combs was a building contractor in Waynetown for many years and retired following the death of his wife. Since that time he has lived with his children. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Irma Buttermore of Kingman, Kan; Mrs. Inez Pennybacker of Georgetown Conn and Miss Inid Combs of Alto, Mich; one son, William Layton Combs of Hartford City; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. Burial will be in the Waynetown Msonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon SUnday.
