Jan. 6, 1940-Jan. 6, 2013:

Roy Conley passed away Jan. 6, 2013, to be reunited with his family in heaven. Born to Vivian I. Bryant and John E. Conley in Bedford, on Jan. 6, 1940, he married Sandra L. Jorgensen on Sept. 28,1972. They just celebrated 40 years of marriage. She survives.Also surviving is a sister Patricia Hopping (Rex); a daughter, Jennifer Conley-Miller (Jim); a son, Roy E. Conley Jr. (Rita);adopted daughter Adina Vogt (Sam); nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also raised one granddaughter, Christina Fritts. Preceding him in death are his daughter Carrie Conley in 1995 and son Chris Conley in 2006.He attended Bedford schools. Roy proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1965. He was a Vietnam era Navy Seal during his time in service. He began painting signs for Johnny Signs in Lafayette. In later years he owned Associated Crafts. He painted signs, motorcycles, race cars, was a welder, built homes and furniture. He was a very talented painter and carpet. Roy loved to tell jokes and was very strongly opinionated. Everyone he encountered always knew how he felt with his colorful choice of words. Roy was a book of knowledge and helped anyone that would ask for his help. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, genealogy and most of all the love, memories and pictures of his close family. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Burkhart Funeral Home, with Pastor John Stacy and Pastor Jennifer Owen officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the family for funeral expenses.Online condolences at www.BurkhartFH.com
