Fern M. Cooper, 92, Mellott, died at 12:40 p.m. Saturday in Covington Manor Nursing Home, Covington.  He worked for the Fountain County Highway Department and served as superintendent of the county highway garage. He was a Republican precinct chairman for Richland Township.

Mr. Cooper was a Fountain County commissioner for 11 years. He had served as Mellott town clerk and treasurer.  He was a former Mellott volunteer fireman. He was a Veedersburg HS alumnus. He was the oldest resident of Mellott at the time of his death.  

Mr. Cooper was a member of Mellott United Church of Christ, Covington Senior Citizens, Fountain County Historical Society and Boy Scouts of America.

He was born Oct 21, 1906 at Melott to Charles M. and Rosa McAlister Cooper.  He married Margareat Lucille Auter on June 1, 1935 at Attica. She survives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Maus Funeral Home, 206 Water St, Hillsboro with Rev. Joel Hutson officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Friends may call 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Covington Senior Citizens or United Church of Christ.
