Waynetown -- C. Smith Cord, 88, retired farmer, died at 1 a.m. Monday in the Small Rest Home at Waynetown. He was a resident of Waynetown and had been seriously ill for only a few days. He was previously a resident of the Wayne Hotel for 10 years. Cord was born Dec. 16, 1874, in Fleming County, Ky., son of Leander and Susan Stockdale Cord. He was married Feb. 26, 1902, to Nancy Elizabeth Payne in Kentucky. She is deceased. Mr. Cord was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church and began farming in this community in 1907, but retired several years ago. He was educated in Kentucky. He is survived by four sons, Delmar, Leonard and Lee of Crawfordsville and Ernest (Dick) Cord of Waynetown; a daughter, Mrs. Hubert Cowan, Rt. 6, Crawfordsville; 15 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Walter and Merrell. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. Rev. Robert Fields of Kentland will officiate. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Waynetown – C. Smith Cord, 88, a retired farmer died at 1 a.m. Monday in the Small Rest Home after an illness of a few days.  Originally from Fleming County, Ky, he moved to Waynetown in 1907.  His wife, formerly Nancy E. Payne preceded him in death.  He was a member of Waynetown Baptist Church.  Surviving are four sons, Delmar, Leonard and Lee, all of Crawfordsville, Ernest (Dick) of Waynetown and a daughter, Mrs. Hubert Cowan of Crawfordsville.
