L. Scott Cowan, 75, died suddenly Saturday at his home northwest of Crawfordsville. He was born Jan 26, 1886, northwest of Crawfordsville, a son of John N. and Margaret Messmore Cowan. He was twice married. His first marriage in 1906 was to Blanche Olin. She died in 1928. His second marriage, April 25, 1943 was to Essie Snyder Vestal. She died Feb 28, 1958. Mr. Cowan, a farmer and carpenter, was well known in Montgomery County as a church singer. He was a member of the Liberty Chapel Church and was active in church work. He was Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee and taught the Loyalist Class in the church. He also was a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. Surviving are two sons, Byron O. of Wingate and W. Marion of Rt 6, Crawfordsville; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Booher of Rt 1, Crawfordsville and Mrs. Rebecca Harris of Indianapolis; three brothers, Walter H. of Seffner, Fl; Andrew M of Washington DC and J. Hubert of Rt 6, Crawfordsville; 10 grandchidlren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bright Funeral Home with Rev. C. Raymond Earle, pastor of the Kokomo Main Street Methodist Church and Rev. Harold L. Clark, pastor of Liberty Chapel Church officiating. Burial in Oakland Cem. Crawfordsville – L. Scott Cowan, 75 of R 4, died unexpectedly in his home at noon Saturday.  Born near Crawfordsville, he resided in the Crawfordsville area his entire life. He was a member of the Liberty Chapel Methodist Church and was active in church affairs and also a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau.  He was a retired farmer. In 1907, he married Blanche Olin who preceded him in death in 1928. He later married Essie Snyder Vestl in 1943. She died in 1958. Surviving are two sons, Byron O of Wingate and Marion of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Booher, Crawfordsville and Mrs. Rebecca Harris of Indianapolis; and three brothers, Hubert of Crawfordsville, Walter of Seffner, Fla and Andrew of Washington DC.
