THORNTOWN – Harold R. Cox, 86, of Rt. 1, Thorntown, a former resident of Montgomery County, died Wednesday in Witham Hospital at Lebanon. He had been in ill health for several months. He was born on June 4, 1888, near Darlington, the son of William J. and Mary Shumaker Cox. He was married to Sylvia Teresa Brown on Dec. 23, 1907, at Crawfordsville. She died in March, 1972. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church at Shannondale. Mr. Cox had lived on a farm northwest of Darlington and on his present farm for the past 59 years. Survivors include a son, Ralph, of Rt. 1, Thorntown; a daughter, Mrs. Martha Mae Garrett of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Mary) Cook of Rt. 1, Thorntown, and Mrs. Dale (Lela) Todd of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Russell and Hitch Funeral Home here with the Rev. Raymond Duff officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Darlington. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. – jlr
