J. Walter Cox, 83, died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Libey, in Ft. Wayne. He had made his home with his daughter the past year. Born April 12, 1877, in Boone County near Shannondale, he was a son of Henry and Elizabeth Cox. He was twice married. His first marriage was to Clara Moore. She died April 26, 1945. His second marriage was to Maude Powers. She died Dec. 1, 1958. Mr. Cox was a retired farmer. He farmed in the Linden and Waynetown areas a number of years. He was a member of the Shannondale Presbyterian Church. Survivors, in addition to Mrs. Libey, are another daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Barnett of Springfield, Ohio; a stepson, Earl Powers of Crawfordsville; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters and brother. Funeral rites are announced for 2 p.m. Friday at Bright Funeral Home with Rev. John R. Services in charge. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday.
