Darlington - Mrs. Mary E. (Shumaker) Cox, 96 of Crawfordsville R5, two miles northwest of Darlington died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday in her home. She had been in ill health 10 years.

A native of Vermillion County, Illinois she lived in Montgomery County most of her life. She had resided in her present home 54 years. She married William J. Cox in 1885 near Darlington.  He died in 1920. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Methodist Church at Potato Creek, north of Darlington. Surviving are a son, Harold Cox of near Thorntown and five daughters: Mrs. Josie Mahoy of Lafayette; Mrs. Freeda Mahoy and Mrs. Mary Cook both of near Darlington and Miss Alta Cox and Mrs. Leila Todd, both of Crawfordsville, R5. - kbz

Cox, Mrs. Mary E - Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, Thorntown where services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Rev. AL Vermillion officiating; interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington.  25 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive.
