James W. Crooks, who died recently in Washington, had servfed for many years in the Congressional Library to which position he was appointed by Uncle Joe Cannon. The Washington Star has the following: James W. Crooks, 67 years old, chief of the record division of the copyright office of the Congressional Library and prominent churchman of this city, died at his residence 3133 Nineteenth Street yesterday Oct 1. He had been ill about a year. Mr. Crooks has been employed in the record division almost since its organization coming to this city in 1897 to accept a position there. He was an active member of the Calvary ME Church and had formerly been president of a Bible class there. He was a member of the Washington Camp of the Modern Woodmen of Ameria. He was a graduate of the old Columbian Law School now George Washington University. Mr. Crooks is survived by a son, Joseph M. Crooks assistant district attorney of the eastern district of New York; a daughter, Mrs. Jewel Downs, a vocal teacher of this city and a brother, Elmer Crooks of Indiana. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Dr. James Shera Montgomery, chaplain of the US House of Representatives will officiate. Interment will be in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery.- typed by kbz
