The Rev. John SERVIES of Crawfordsville, conducted the funeral services for John S. CROWDER held at the late home near Hillsboro, Monday afternoon. Mrs. Clyde Dooley of Terre Haute sang, In the Garden and The Eastern Gate. The pall bearers were: Ernest Pyle of Waynetown; Maurice H. Williams; Marion R. Cooper; Clifford Willett; Floyd Sadler and Ransom Wagner. Flower bearers were: mr. and Mrs. Marion Davidson and daughters, Mary Eileen and Shirley of Clarks Hill; Mr. and Msr. Harold Murrin of Danville; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Crowder of Waynetown; Mr. and Mrs. William Groves and children, Billy Jo, Donnie and Carol Ann of Crawfordsville; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kelsey of Mace; Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Barton of Terre Haute; Mrs. Faye Ellis of Perrysville; Mrs. Grace Crowder of Georgetown Ill; Nancy and Barbara Frances Irwin and Betty and Sally all of Elmdale. Burial was in the Masonic Cem. at Waynetown. John S. Crowder, son of Wiley B. and Hannah DEVERS Crowder, was born in Iroquois County, Illinois March 18, 1859. He departed this life, Aprl 25, 1947 at age 88 years 1 month and 7 days. He grew to manhood in Fountain County, Indiana where he was firs tmarried to Rebecca E. Crowder Feb 19, 1880 and went to housekeeping on a farm near Cates, ind. To this union 5 children were born: Elijah of Sullivan, ill; Wiley C of Waynetown; Grover B of Hillsboro; two children having died in infancy. After the death of his first wife in 1923 he lived alone at th ehome until NOv 8, 1925 when he married Clara F. IRVIN of Wingate who survives. Early in life he united he united with the beach Grove United Brethren Church near Cates. He was a member of the Wallace Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star, all of which he took an active interest in until some four years ago when he was first afflicted. He leaves to mourn besides the above mentioned a step granddaughter, Mary Louise SCOOG of Danville, Ill who was reared in his home, of whom he was very fond; four step sons William L. Irvin of Long Beach Calif; Ben H. Irvin of Darlington; Don D. Irvin of Ellendale and Hubert G. Irvin of Wingate, 9 grandchildren and 15 greats, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends in the neighborhood where he had lived so long and had lived so well. Uncle John as he was familiarly known was a man who thought much of his church ... (rest is gone)

Waynetown, April 26 – John S. Crowder, 88, died at 8 p.m. Friday at his home three miles southwest of Waynetown after suffering a paralytic stroke 18 days ago. Born in Iroquois County, Illinois he was twice married, first to Rebecca E. Crowder, Feb 19, 1880 and after her death to Clara F. Irvin Nov 8, 1925. He belonged to the Evangelical UB Church at Cates and Masonic and OES Lodges at Wallace. Survivors are his widow; three sons, Elijah A, Sullivan, Ill; Wiley C, Waynetown and Grover B, Hillsboro and four stepsons, William L and Ben H Irvin, Darlington and Don D and Hubert G. Irvin, Elmdale. – kbz
