Melvin E. Crowder, 82, for more than 40 years engaged in the real estate and insurance business in this neighborhood, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Zillah Miller, 519 E. Main St. A native of Fincastle, Va., he was born Sept. 30, 1881 to David and Anna Carper Crowder and came to Montgomery County with his family in 1886. He farmed in early life. He was married to Rose Eskew June 24, 1902 in the Shannondale Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death. Surviving besides the daughter at whose home he died are a son and daughter-in-law, Creighton and Mildred Crowder of this city, and a nephew, J. C. (Red) Crowder of Indianapolis, formerly of Crawfordsville. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Henry Karg of Terre Haute officiating and interment in the Shannondale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Name Incorrect: In the obituary account of Melvin Crowder the last name of a nephew, J. C. (Red) LaFollette of Indianapolis, formerly of Crawfordsville, was incorrectly printed herein as Crowder.
