Thorntown Enterprise: One of the saddest deaths in the history of our community was that of Mrs. Sadie E. Curtis, wife of F. H. Curtis, our laundryman, which occurred Friday at 2:45 a.m. She had been complaining of impaired health for about two months, but persisted in attending to her work at the laundry, but was taken down Thursday morning about 10:30. About 2:30 a.m. Friday Dr. Armstrong was called for the second time during the night, and shortly after she seemed to rally. Then the doctor turned about for some medicine and upon looking back saw that she had died in that brief interval. Cause of death was heart trouble.
The funeral occurred yesterday at New Market. The mother of the deceased was present at the last, her sister and her husband having just left for Crawfordsville. Later in the day, her sister, Mrs. L. B. Steadman and husband returned from Crawfordsville and Milford Surface, her brother, came from New Market.

Deceased was born three miles northwest of New Market on April 20, 1871, thus being about 27 years of age at the time of death. She was married to Mr. Curtis on September 1, 1896 at Crawfordsville where he continued in the laundry business until he came here on December 3, 1898. She leaves her husband, the brothers and sister above mentioned, and two other brothers, Charles and Frank Surface. Also her mother, Mary Ann Surface, and a little son, Bertie, besides a large number of friends to mourn her death. She was a most industrious and persevering woman and a great assistance to her husband in his work, a loving wife, and mother and an earnest friend. She was a member of the Christian Church at Crawfordsville.
