Linden - Senior M. Sgt. Judd M. Halstead (Ret), 56, former area resident, died suddenly Monday at his home in Daytona Beach, Fla. He had lived the last 20 years in Daytona Beach, and last June retired after a 24 year career in the U.S. Army and Air Force. Born Jan . 29, 1914, in the Kirkpatrick are of Montgomery county, he was the son of J.P. and Rena Russell Halstead. He graduated from Linden High School in 1932 and attended Purdue University two years. He worked for Alcoa Co. for two years and sold real estate in Daytona Beach until he entered the armed services. His service career included duty during World War II when he was stationed on the Russell Islands. He also served in Alaska and Germany, and his last tour of duty had been in Vietnam and Thailand. He received the Bronze Star for meritorious service in Southeast Asia earlier this year. He neer marrid. He was a member of the old Kirkpatrick Methodist Church and Linden Masonic Lodge. 697. Survivors include a brother, Joe D. Halstead of Linden; a sister, Mrs. G.R. Clayton III of Lafayette; a niece and three nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Helms Funeral Home in Linden. Rev. Broten Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the Linden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday. - br
