Major George N. Naylor died last night following a short illness.  His passing will come as a shock to many as he had many friends and only a few were aware of his illness.  He was born in Crawfordsville, Ind. in 1851 and was 81 years of age.  He was well acquainted and was a close friend of General Lew Wallace, author of "Ben Hur."  His title of major was given him in Indiana as a member of the Indiana infantry. Santa Cruz had been his home since 1907, with the exception of a few years spent at San Juan Bautista.  He conducted on the east side  gents furnishing goods, store and was in charge of a branch post office in his store.  Mr. Naylor was a communicant of Calvary Episcopal church and at one time served as a member of the vestry.  He was a devoted member of his church.  He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leonora Penniman, wife of H.W.H. Penniman, and Louise Swinford, wife of John Swinford.  The body is at the Wessendorf Mortuary. – thanks muches to Kim H for this on
