Nelson, Lucinda Hardee

Mrs. Lucinda E. Nelson, 91 years old, one of the oldest living residents of this city, died shortly after 10 o'clock last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George M. Vance, 414 E. Jefferson St, this city. Her death was due to the infirmities of age. Mrs. Nelson was the daughter of pioneer settlers. She was b. here Dec 20, 1832 and has lived in Crawfordsville all her life. Mrs. Nelson was one of the few remaining residents of the city who could tell of the early days of Montgomery County. She was known to all for her kindly manner and good word for everyone. Sites and objects of little interest to the present generation could be pointed out by Mrs. Nelson as things which made history in this city. Mrs. Nelson was the oldest member of the Christian Church. She was a member for more than 60 years. She was the oldest and last of 10 children born to the Hardee family, who came here when Crawfordsville was but a wilderness. She was the daughter of. Joseph A. and Mary (Weir) Hardee. She was married to Clark B. Nelson in 1859. he has been dead many years. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. George M. Vance of this city and a grandson, Fred N. Vance of Indianapolis. The remains were taken to the funeral home of Proffitt & Sons on account of sickness at the home of Mrs. Vance. The funeral services will be held from the Christian Church Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Kerr assisted by Rev. Burkhardt will have charge. - kbz
