COVINGTON – Merle M. Newkirk, 66, of Covington, a native of Perrysville, died at 9:20 a.m. Thursday at her residence. She had been in failing health eight months. Mrs. Newkirk was a 50-year member of Royal Neighbors Camp 6070. She had been a resident of Covington 40 years. Born Sept. 26, 1908, she was a daughter of Bert and Katherine Julian Trosper. She married Donald Newkirk on Oct. 5, 1940. He survives. Also surviving are three half-brothers, Wayne Trosper of Cayuga, Eugene of St. Louis and Roy of Winchester; two half-sisters, Mrs. Irene Kinderman of Cayuga and Mrs. Gladys Gritton of Danville; two stepsisters, Mrs. Teltha Hinkle and Mrs. Helen Uplinger of Cayuga. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here with the Rev. Edgar Allen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Merle M. Newkirk, 66, of 209 Water St., died at 9:20 a.m. Thursday (June 12, 1975) at her home after an illness of eight months. She had resided in Covington the past 40 years. She was a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors Camp 6070. She was born Sept. 25, 1908 in Perrysville, Ind., the daughter of Bert and Katherine Julian Trosper. On Oct. 5, 1940, she was married to Donald Newkirk, who survives. Other survivors include three half-brothers, Wayne Trosper of Cayuga, Ind., Eugene Trosper of St. Louis, Mo., and Roy Trosper of Winchester, Ind.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Irene Kinderman of Cayuga, and Mrs. Gladys Gritton of Danville, Ill.; two step-sisters, Mrs. Teltha Hinkle and Mrs. Helen Uplinger, both of Cayuga. A daughter, two step-sisters and a brother preceded her in death. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Services will be there at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Edgar Allen will officiate, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.   – jlr
