Newnum - Virginia Cornell

Mrs. Virginia R. Newnum, 711 Sloan St., died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at Culver Hospital. She was 51. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church here, the Order of the Eastern Star at Darlington, the Montgomery County Chorus and the Montgomery County Home Economics Club. She was born near Darlington Jan. 16, 1915, to Floyd and Georgia Gambrel Cornell. She graduated from Darlington High School in 1932 and attended Purdue University and Central Business College, Indianapolis. She married Forrest Newnum Nov. 5, 1938. Survivors include the husband; five children, Wayne of Peru, Mrs. Ruthanna Burgess of Pensacola, Fla., William of Crawfordsville, Dale of near Ladoga and Linda, at home, and a brother, Dr. Robert Cornell of Crawfordsville. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, David Cornell. Funeral services are announced for 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Bennett Fulp of the EUB Church will officiate, and interment will be in Masonic Cemetery. – jlr
