Robert E. Oliver May 20, 1928-Oct. 30, 2003

Robert E. Oliver, 75, died 4:34 p.m. Thursday in Williamsburg Healthcare. Mr. Oliver was a Crawfordsville firefighter for 23 years, serving four years as chief, retiring in 1983. He was then a car salesman for Town Edge Motors and Stetler Chevrolet, drove the Sunshine Van and was a van driver for Methodist Hospital, transporting patients. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He attended First Baptist and New Hope Christian churches. His memberships included the American Legion. He attended Ladoga and Crawfordsville schools. He was born May 20, 1928, in Montgomery County, to Leo and Mary Hall Oliver. He married Wandaline Duncan. He later married Mary Brown on May 29, 1955, at Crawfordsville. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Dave, Michigan City, Rick, Crawfordsville, Randy, Sarasota, Fla., and Ryan, Waynetown; two daughters, Jane, Michigan City, and Jill Strunk, Dexter, Minn.; a sister, Evelyn Eggers, Crawfordsville; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Three brothers and three sisters are deceased. Funeral services are scheduled 11 a.m. Monday in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, with the Rev. James Ranard officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill North Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
