Ernest Ray Oppy, 75, 1202 N. Main St., who had been in the shoe business for many years, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been in failing health a few weeks. He was born near New Richmond, May 2, 1892, to George and Sarah Young Oppy. Dec. 4, 1917, he married Mamie L. Harshbarger. He was a member of the New Richmond Methodist Church. He also was a 50-year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He had been employed at Freedman's (now Rapp's) in Crawfordsville and Loeb's in Lafayette. Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Lipp of Crawfordsville; a son, Walter Oppy of near Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Miller of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Bertha Allen of Romney, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Milo Riggs officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services for Ernest Ray Oppy were held Monday afternoon in the Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Milo Riggs officiating. Burial was in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers and assisting with the floral tributes were Dan Dains, Harold Elkins, Thomas Kerns, Lester Parnell, Harry Blacker and Clyde Blacker. Selections were played on the organ by Mrs. O. C. Edwards.
