Ferguson R. Ormes, 75, former Wabash College staff member died Tuesday at Alexandria, Va according to word received here. Prof. Ormes taught both economics and served as comptroller of the college for 30 years. A native of Colorado Springs, Colo Mr. Ormes came to Wabash in the fall of 1921 as a teacher of economics, law and accounting. He was professor of economics from 1927 and was named comptroller in 1928, a post he held until 1958. Prof. Ormes also served as chairman of Division III at Wabash from 1928 to 1951. Following his retirement in 1958, he went on a world tour and then returned to do some part time teaching in account. Later he also did extensive research work for the college archives. Holder of a bachelor of arts degree from both Colorado College and Yale University, Mr. Ormes was a chief yeoman in the US Naval Reserve from 1917-1919 and for two years prior to coming to Wabash was a salesman for Pace & Pace, New York accountants. He also received a master of arts degree from the Univ of Chicago in 1925. For many years Prof. Ormes was active in the American Econ Assoc and served on the exec. Committee to this organization in the early 1940s. He also was the author of a textbook entitles, Business Accounting, Applied Economics and National Income Accounting. Mr. Ormes was married two times, first to Mabrie Julia Verner and later to Emily Schlemmer, both now deceased. He had three children by his first marriage. They are: Robert V. Ormes, Alexandra; David F. Ormes, Washington DC and Mrs. John D. Kneebone, Lutherville-Trimonium, Md. Other survivors include a brother, Robert Ormes, Colorado Springs and sister, Mrs. Jean Guy, Grand Junction, Colo. The family has said there will be no funeral services for Mr. Ormes until fall. Brief graveside rites will be held following cremation at Colorado Springs. It also has been requested that any remembrances for Prof. Ormes should be in the form of unrestricted gifts to Wabash College. - kbz
