OWENS - Hazel Maude

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 5 January 1900

Hazel Maude Owens, the oldest child of Andrew Owens, was born in this city March 13, 1894, and died at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Britts, Jan. 2nd, 1900, aged 6 years and 9 months. Her affliction was the much dreaded diphtheria. Little Hazel’s mother preceded her to the spirit world about 14 months ago and strange it may seem, but this sweet little child spoke many times during her illness of seeing her mamma and begged her friends not to try to keep her here by giving her medicine. Hazel was a bright, intelligent child and was the idol of the household at her grandparents since her mamma died.  The funeral occurred on Wednesday conducted by Rev. Runyan and owing to the nature of the disease was strictly private.  The father and grandparents have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sad bereavement. -s
