William Pittman, 72 years of age, a will respected resident of Binford street, died at his home at six Tuesday evening as a result of a general breakdown of health. Mr. Pittman had not been in good health for several months. The deceased was a veteran of the Civil war. Born 1842 in Boone county, he was 22 years old at the outbreak of the struggle, and he enlisted with Company C, 101 Ind., Volunteer Infantry, where he served for three years. At the conclusion of the war, Mr. Pittman was married to Catherine Furry and of the five children who came as a result of the match, Elizabeth and Kitty, survive. Mrs. Pittman died in the year 1908, and the three children who have gone before have all died since the year 1907. Mr. Pittman, in the pursuance of his trade as a printer, founded several papers in this district. He was for a number of years editor of the Darlington Echo. of late years, however, he had devoted much of his time to gardening. The funeral will be held in the chapel of the Barnhill-Templeton Undertaking Company Thursday afternoon at three, and burial will be at Oak Hill. - thanks to Kim H
