NEW MARKET- Ernest L. Smith, 59, prominent farmer of this community, died of a heart attack in the yard at his home six miles west of here at 2 p .m. Tuesday. He had been in failing health for several years. He was born near here Nov. 7, 1899, a son of Alfred and Minnie Allen Smith, and was married June 14, 1927, to Thelma Canine. Mr. Canine was a member of the Ladoga IOOF Lodge. He was a dealer in Funk's hybrid seed corn. Surviving are the widow and several cousins, including Mrs. Hazel Lyons of Crawfordsville. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Friday at the Noble Reeves Funeral Home here, where friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday. Re v. David Canine will officiate and burial will be in the Freedom Cemetery.

Note:  I have a note (kbz) that he was the one who owned the Smith Cabins in the New Market area.
