Word reached this city today of the death of Francis M. Smith, a veteran of the Civil War, passed away at the soldiers home in Lafayette this morning at 9:30 o'clock. Death came after an extended illness from a complication of diseases. Mr. Smith had been residing at the home for about 2 1/2 years. The deceased well known in New Richmond and community, had no near relatives as far as is known. A grandson, Benjamin Smith, now a teacher in the Normal School at Terre Haute, survives. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife over 20 years ago and for many years was a resident of New Richmond. The body was brought to the Barnhill undertaking parlors today. Burial will be made at New Richmond. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.
