Source: Although not in the Crawfordsville District Public Library's database of their newspaper Vital Statistics Clarence died 17 Oct 1959 and is buried in Crawfordsville Masonic Cemetery -- since the obituary says he died here in Crawfordsville, I can't imagine it's any other but the Crawfordsville Journal-Review newspaper and would be probably the 19th since that was a Saturday and it would likely be in Monday's paper.
Clarence Smith, 73, in the hardware and plumbing business 40 years, died Saturday morning in Culver Hospital after suffering a coronary occlusion on Friday. Born Feb. 4, 1886 at Ladoga, Mr. Smith was the son of William Henry Smith and Emily McMullen Smith. He was married twice, first to Floy Crow on Nov. 8, 1906. His second marriage was to Cora Lee Cone on Feb. 1, 1953. Surviving are the widow; a son, Kenneth Smith of Crawfordsville; three sisters, Mrs. Sudie Bran of New Market, Mrs. Ruth Layson of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Fanny Blaydes of Ladoga; a brother, Artie Lee Smith of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four stepchildren. The family home is two miles south of Crawfordsville on US 231. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Hunt and Son Funeral Home, with burial at Masonic Cemetery. Rev. John R. Servies and Rev. Henry Karg will be the officiating ministers. Friends may call at the funeral home.
