Smyth - Sam

Sourc:L Crawfordsville Daily Journal, October 10, 1910

Sam Smyth, aged 76 years, who for years was a well known citizen of Crawfordsville, died on Friday at Waukegan, Ill., where he had been residing for the past four years with a relative. On Sunday at two in the afternoon the funeral services were held at Waukeegan in the Episcopal church. Directly after the services, according to the wishes of the deceased, his body was taken by a relative to Chicago, where he was cremated today. The urn containing his ashes will be brought here some time Tuesday, and it is presumed a short service will be held after which the urn will be placed at the head of his mother's grave in Oak Hill cemetery. Mr Smyth has no relatives in this city now. His parents died many years ago. He was a prominent member of the Episcopal Church here since his early youth, and he used a frequently say that he had occupied his mother's pew for more than half a century. - thanks to Kim H
