Robert Eugene Surber of Crawfordsville died Friday morning in his home. He was 77. Mr. Surber retired from RR Donnelley after 43 years. He served in the Army in Korea. His memberships included Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Moose. He was educated at Horace Mann High School. He was born Feb. 1, 1934, at Crawfordsville, to Hobart Bo and Helen Christine (Weliever) Surber. He married Laura Belle Barnett. She is deceased. Survivors include: companion Charlene Summers; sons, Robert E. (Kelly) Surber Jr., John W. (Melissa) Surber and Jeffrey A. (Tami) Surber; daughters, Rosalee Harvey, Debra (John) Hendon and Chastity French; brothers, David Surber and Mike Surber; sisters, Violet Hocking, Judy Whitlow, Nancy Teague and Sue Sheets; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Son Gary Dean Surber and brother James Donald Surber are deceased. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave., with the Rev. David Bock officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery South with military rites conducted by the VFW and American Legion. Friends may call 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
