Albertus UPTON, son of Thomas and Maria Upton was born April 25, 1864 near Dundas, Illinois and was united in marriage to Blanche Wolf in Waveland in 1905, and died at the home of a brother, Colmore Upton at Goreville, Illinois Dec 8. Mr. Upton was a veteran of the Spanish American War. He enlisted into Co. B of the 4th Illinois vol. In April 1898 and saw service in Cuba until the end of the war. Uncle Bert, as he had been affectionately called the last several years came to Waveland in 1902 where he became the town's blacksmith and later engaged in the lumber business with is father-in-law. In his declining years he operated a service station in the building where he had previously had his blacksmith shop. For the last few years he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Ella Maya t Newton, Illinois but in his last days resided with his brother, Colmore Upton at Goreville, Illinois. Mr. Upton was a member of the local Methodist Church where he and his beloved wife worshipped during their sojourn here. Mr. Upton was a high grade citizen and was considerate and kind to everyone. There survive his brother, two sisters, Mrs. Ell May and Mrs. Louisa Bruner of Rose Hill, Illinois. Burial was made in Maple Ridge Cemetery. -- kbz
