It becomes our painful duty to announce in this week's issue, the death of William C. Vance, a warm and highly esteemed friend of ours, as well as hundreds of others in Montgomery county. He expired at his residence in this city, last Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, after a brief but painful illness, in the 42nd year of his age. From the fall of 1855 to the fall of 63, a period of eight years, he discharged the duties of County Clerk, with fidelity and correctness and in all of the progressive movements and enterprises that have marked the history of our county for the last twenty years, his name has been prominently identified. In his intercourse with his fellowmen, was a genial and lovable companion, one whom we shall all sadly miss, now that he has crossed into the dark shadows that lead to the summer land with its golden sunlight and Elysian fields. To the bereaved family, who have lost a kind and affectionate husband and parent, we off our sincere condolence.
