Miss Effie May VanCleave, 85, of New Market, died of a stroke at 11:30 p.m. Thursday at Rudisill Nursing Home, Crawfordsville. She had been a patient there for 4 years but prior to that had lived in New Market her entire life. She was born Jan 17, 1876, the daughter of Edwin and Sarah Hicks VanCleave. She attended School No. 1 and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, Browns Valley. Survivors include a sister, Alma VanCleave, who lived with her at the nursing home; two nieces, three nephews and a cousin. Preceding her in death were a brother, John Sanford VanCleave and four sisters, Mrs. Emma Armstrong; Mrs. Milbert Sayler, Miss Lina VanCleave and Miss Alice VanCleave. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday Noble Reeves Funeral home, New Market; burial in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. - kbz
