John Vanscoyoc, aged 93 years, died on Tuesday at his home, five miles southeast of this city. He died of old age, but up to Monday was able to converse freely and intelligently with friends who gathered about him. The funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon. John Vanscoyoc was born in Pennsylvania April 10, 1803, but came to this county in 1827, entering the farm of 160 acres upon which he died. He worked in Crawfordsville when only three houses stood in the place. He married, but his wife died many years ago and only two of their children live, Miss Nancy, a spinster of near Whitesville, and James Vanscoyoc, of Iowa. For several years previous to his death, old Mr. Vanscoyoc lived with Harvey Elliott, who tenanted his place. The old gentleman was a bitter and uncompromising Democrat, but had no religious belief. -s
