Waveland - Oscar L. Cook 88, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Home Hospital at Lafayette. He had been in failing health for the past 6 weeks. Mr. Cook was born Oct 19, 1882, to William M. and Rosa Bymaster Cook near North Salem. He was married to Maude Straughn in 1910 (sic - 17 July 1916) at Waveland. He attended Eel River School at North Salem and also Waveland School. He worked at the Allison plant in Indianapolis until 1945 when he moved to Waveland. Here he owned and operated Cook's Antique Store. He was a member of the Waveland Christian Church, Waveland Lions Club and Masonic Lodge 300 for more than 50 years. Survivors include a brother, harry Cook of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. H.V. (Nancy) Taylor of Danville, Ind two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Machledt & Servies Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Swearingen officiating. Masonic rites will be there at 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
