WILLIAM ROSS - C. W. Soldier

Source: Crawfordsville Journal, Saturday, January 13, 1912

William Ross, aged 80, a carriage trimmer, a veteran of the civil war, having served with the First Ohio Regiment, and a member of McPherson Post No 7, was found dead in his room at the home of Mrs. Walters on the corner of Pike and Walnut street this morning. The coroner was called and after making an investigation announced that death was due to natural causes. When he failed to appear for breakfast, Mrs. Waters went to his room to call him, and as he did not respond she opened the door and discovered that he was dead. It was at first thought that he might have taken his own life, but this was proved to be a false report. He was married but separated from his wife several years ago while he resided in Illinois. One child was born, but died before reaching maturity. For many years the deceased was employed in the Miller carriage factory and after his industry was discontinued he went to Pittsboro, where he has since resided while at work, but always said that Crawfordsville was his home. The funeral which will be held Monday afternoon at two, will be in charge of the G.A.R.

*Note - Born May 2, 1832 in Marietta, Washington, Ohio (Death Certificate)
