Who's Who

MARY McMAINS - 1890

Source: Weekly Argus News, May 24, 1890 p 1

A remarkable woman is Mrs. Mary McMains. She is the mother of 13 children, the youngest being 39 years old, all of whom are living. She has also 40 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. And out of this number all, save seven are living. Yesterday Mrs. McMains was 83 years old and the event was celebrated by a family reunion and dinner at the home of her daughter Mrs. Evaline Pratt at Waveland. The children are, in order of seniority, John and James of Waveland; Samuel of Morton; Phillip of Rossville, Ill; Nancy Kelsen (Kelso) of Waveland; Marinda Ellis, Rossville, Ill; Anderson, Armstrong, Ill; Elmina Petty, Mammoth Springs, Ark; David, East Lynn, Ill; Evaline Pratt, Waveland; Lloyd, Waveland; Mary Ellen Alfrey, Alamo; Robert, Waveland. All were there except David. There were present at dinner 52 persons. Mrs. McMains is rather feeble and unable to attend church. In consequence arrangements were made for Elder Budger to conduct divine services at the house in the afternoon when the sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered. - transcribed by kbz
