ROBERT SAYERS Family Reunion - 1907

Source: Unknown newspaper, article marked 1907

Although we gave mention of the reunion last weeks, we take measure in printing this article sent us by the reunion secretary we received too late for last week: the ninth annual reunion of the Robert Sayers family was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Sayers Kirkpatrick, one mile north of New Richmond, on Tuesday, August 27. The day was a pleasant one for such an occasion and early in the day aunts, uncles and cousins began to arrive from far and near. An elaborate dinner was served on the lawn. The good things of every description were partaken of by the 80 members present. OUt of the 18 branches of the family there were only 3 branches not repreented, those of Thomas Sayers, Jane Sayers Bonwell and Minerva Sayers Cording. At 3 o'clock in the absence of A.T. Sayers, president and S.S. Kirkpatrick, VP, William A. McBeth called the association to order. The roll was called and the minutes of the last meeting read. There were also several letters of regrets read from absent relatives from a distance. There were several short spicy talks on family history by members present. The officers were reelected: A.T. Sayers, president; S.S. Kirkpatrick, VP; Junie Sayers Borum, secretary. A committee was appointed by the president to arrange a program for the next meeting. The committee consisted of Homer G. Knight, Samuel Rafferty and Quinn McBeth. Miscellaneous was transacted and a vote of thanks was extended to Mr. and Mrs. Kirkpatrick for their hospitality. After singing, God Be With You Till We Meet Again, the association adjourned to meet with Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Miller of Sugar Grove on the last Tuesday of August, 1908. Those present from a distance were William A. McBeth and family, Terre Haute; WIlliam Sayers and Mrs. Bert Price, Lafayette; J. Wesley Kerr and family, Winthrop; Mrs. French, Sullivan, Ohio; Mrs. Howard Amos and children, Indianapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Homer G. Knight and son, Paul, Charleston, Ind; Miss Ethel and Emmett Arnett, West Lafayette; William Bennett, Liberty Chapel; Mrs. Brent Tribby, Cloverdale, Ind; Rev. and Mrs. H.C. Riley of New Richmond were guests of the family for this occasion. - typed by kbz - contributed by JoAn Oppy (one fab lady)
