Snyder - 1907

- Source: Crawfordsville Review Sept 6, 1907

With plenty of good things to eat, lots of music and some speech making it was a jolly fine time that the Snyders enjoyed in their big reunion at the fair grounds Sunday. Notwithstanding the combination of thunder, lightning and rain that came in the afternoon, the Snyders permitted nothing to dampen their spirits and any one who might have happened in the vicinity of their refuge in the big dining hall during the afternoon would doubtless have realized the fact that there were "some doings" there. About 165 Snyers, hailing from Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Ohio participated in the festivities of the day. The Snyders are musical and the musical program was one of the features of the day. Members of the family from Danville, Ill, Lafayette, Frankfort and Crawfordsville all did their best to make voice, violin, mandolin and piano do full duty and the program included everything from the faggiest ragtime selection to the most classic of the classical. In the way of speechmaking there were oratorical stunts by President Garret Snyder and Emerson E. Ballard of this city, ME Foley who was to have delivered the principal address of the day was called to Michigan City to attend a meeting of the state board of prison parole and Mr Ballard was requested to "sub" for him. The latter opened his address by explaining that Mr. Foley had been sent to the penitentiary that he had gladly consented to act in his place. Then he proceeded to get busy and for a half hour or more entertained the audience with his characteristic wit and eloquence. At the business session, the present family organization was continued, Garret Snyder of Linden, being reelected president; EL Swank of this city, sec/treas. A committee composed of James Snyder of Thorsby Ala; Ed Holmes of Milford, Ill and William Snyder of Darlington was appointed to arrange the details of next year's reunion, which will also probably be held in this city. - kbz ===
