Young Family

Source: Greencastle Banner, 6 Oct 1887 p 1

On Saturday Sept 10th one of the largest reunions ever held in Montgomery County was convened at Dudley Young’s southeast of Ladoga. It embraced the 10 brothers and sisters of the Young family, their children and grandchildren and a host of other friends.  Nearly 1,000 persons assembled and were welcomed in a neat speech by Thompson Ashby on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. AD Young. After dinner, too bounteous and toothsome for description, a history of the family was given by JB Fosher.  Dudley and Fletcher Young followed in remarks about the old home in Kentucky, WF Goslin, Thompson Ashby, Will Gill and others followed in brief talks. An artist was present and took a photography of the family group. Handshaking and affectionate goodbyes followed, when the numbers of this remarkable family assembly parted, very likely never to meet again with the band unbroken.  Only one brother, Harrison Young of Kentucky was absent and this alone was a shadow over the day’s festivities. There are, of this family 10- children, 8 being sons. All ar living. Their average age is 64. The oldest, Wm. M. Young is 74 and Mrs. Sarah Park, the youngest, is 53. There are 215 children and grandchildren. We gie their names below: Wm. M. Young, Putnam County is 74; has 7 children and 24 grandchldren and 9 great grandchildren.  John H. Young, Putnam County was born in 1815; has 11 children and 8 grandchildren.  Harrison Young of Kentucky was born in 1818; has 11 children 29 grandchildren and one great grandchild. America Young, Iowa was born in 1820; has 14 children and 19 grandchldren. Milton Young, Boone County born in 1822; has 15 children and 15 grandchildren. A. Dudley Young, Montgomery County born in 1824, one child and 3 grandchildren. Myers, Boone County; 10 children and 9 grandchildren. Sarah C. Park, Missouri, born in 1834; 8 children and one grandchild.  With the exception of the oldest brothers’ each of thse family circles has been invaded by death.  It was a notable gathering – a page form the hapoy, sorrowful volume of human life.
