Funeral services for Shaker T. Gabriel, 51, prominent retired Syrian merchant here who died of a heart ailment at 2:30 o’clock Friday morning at the Methodist Hospital, will be held Monday morning at 8:30 o’clock at the residence, 1229 South Hanna Street and 9 o’clock at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas M. Conroy officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. The body will be taken home at 4 o’clock this afternoon from Julian Schone’s Funeral Home. The deceased was born in Syria, and had resided here since 1911. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception. Survivors include the widow, Margaret; three sons, Marshall, Eugene and Richard Gabriel, and a daughter Miss Malveena Gabriel of this city; five sisters, Mrs. Mike Morris of Syracuse, N.Y., Mrs. K. Heick of Brazil, South America, Mrs. Mike Abood of Toledo and two sisters in Syria.

North Webster, May 21 – Merl Gawthrop, 51, of near North Webster, died Monday at the Logansport State Hospital. Patricia A. Gerke, 85, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne. Born in Allen County IN, to the late Harold and Dorothy Lewis. Patricia graduated from Central High School in 1950. She was a bookkeeper for Fruehauf Trailer and later became an LPN and worked at Parkview Memorial Hospital for over 10 years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Churubusco, IN and Bethel Lutheran Church in Palm Harbor, FL. Her hobbies included traveling with her husband, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Edna F. Gero, 66, wife of Albert Gero and former resident of Huntertown, died at her home in Terre Haute today, according to word received here. Surviving besides the husband are two brothers, Jack Bennett of Kendallville and William Bennett of Fort Wayne and several nieces and nephews. Martha Elizabeth Giant, 85, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017. She was born in Decatur, IN, the daughter of Joseph and Florence (Bremerkamp) Laurent. She married Don Giant May 24th, 1952. She was a woman of faith, had the gift of hospitality, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that cared endlessly for her loving family. Funeral services for Sidney Ellis Grosvenor, 58-year-old plumbing contractor who resided at 2217 Webster Street, will be held Monday, 2 pm at Klaehn & Sons Funeral Home and at 2:30 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Wabash, May 28 – Funeral services for Mrs. Ona Grover, 77, who died at her home here this morning after a long illness, will be held at 2:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Hoover Funeral Home with Rev. Ware W. Wimberly of the First Presbyterian Church in charge. Burial will be in Matlock Cemetery. Mrs. Grover, who was the widow of Arthur M. Grover, was born in the old Brady Homestead in Liberty Township, the daughter of William and Frances Brady. She had been an active member of the Presbyterian Church for many years. Mrs. Grover is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Blount L. Schlemmer and two granddaughters, Catherine Jane and Mary Elizabeth Schlemmer, all of Warsaw.

Wabash, May 29 – Funeral services for Mrs. John Gibney, 80, who died late Tuesday at her home here where she had been ill for several months, will be held at 10 o’clock Friday morning at the residence with Rev. Jean Ellen Graue, nine-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Graue of 2619 Weisser Park Avenue, died early Tuesday morning in Chicago. Jack Duane Green, Sr.

Jack Duane Green, Sr., 80 passed Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Hospice Home with family by his side. Born in Fort Wayne, he was a son to the late Edward L. Green and Nellie E. (Miller) Green. Jack graduated from Central High School and then enlisted with the Navy in the reserves. He retired from Tokheim after 35 years of service. He loved helping those in need, serving on the board for Turnstone and Mental Health America of Allen County, working with United Way Community Services, Cancer Services of Allen County, and UAW Cap Council to name a few. Joseph Haffner, 21, of 523 East Leigh Street died Saturday at 7:30 pm at Bloomington following a 10-day illness with pneumonia. He was a sophomore in the Indiana University Business Administration School. Haffner is survived by his mother, Mrs. Katheryn Haffner; two sisters, Betty and Theresa; a brother, Kenneth and his grandmother, Mrs. James Ryan. The body was removed to Mungovan & Sons Funeral Home late Saturday night. Haffner was a graduate of St. Peter's Commercial School, a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.

She was a founding member of Christ's Church at Georgetown, She was also a member of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and the American Legion Post #82. Huntington, May 21 – Amos Worth Harlan, 68, died today at the Huntington County Hospital where he was taken Saturday from his home in Lancaster Township. His first marriage was to Clara Searles, who is dead. Surviving children from the union are Russell, Carl and Miss Helen Harlan, all of Clearwater, Fla., Lytle Harlan, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Orpha Rose, Miami, Fla.; Mrs. Ethel Kramer, Marion, Mrs. Dessie Gilmore, Barto, Fla., and Mrs. Blanche Quigley, Jacksonville, Fla. He was married a second time to Roberta Fisher, who survives with the following children: Cora Elizabeth, Roberta Irene, Robert Worth, Rose Louise, Dale J. and Barbara Ruth Harlan, all at home. He also leaves a brother, William Harlan, Marion, a half-brother, Owen Bradford, Nashville Tenn., and 11 grandchildren.

Atwood, May 27 - Mrs. Clara Alice Harmon, 72, died at her home north of here Monday morning after a short illness with a heart disease. Funeral services for Robert William Harney, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Harney, 2710 Brooklyn Avenue, will be held Tuesday, 3 pm at the Klaehn & Sons Funeral Home and 3:15 pm at Simpson Methodist Church, Rev. Alvin P. Teter will be in charge and burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Robert died at 6:40 am Saturday at Lutheran Hospital following an illness of four weeks. He was a student at Anthony Wayne School and attended Simpson Methodist Sunday School. He is survived by his parents and grandmother, Mrs. Laura Boren of Fort Wayne.

David Hartman

David Hartman, 64, of Monroeville, IN passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 23, 2017. He was born January 25, 1953 in Decatur to Charles and Julia (Emenhiser) Hartman. David was a lifelong member of the Masons and previously attended St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock. He retired from Alro Steel as a sheet iron worker and also retired from Eckrich after ten years of service. David enjoyed hunting by bow and gun. He is survived by his parents. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, with Brian Clay officiating. John R. Hayes

Wabash, May 25 – Funeral services for John R. Hayes, 91, of Rich Valley, will be held at 10 o’clock Monday morning at the Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Ware W. Wimberly in charge. Burial will be in the Schrock Cemetery near Peru. Mr. Hayes, who was a retired railroad worker, had been a resident of Wabash County for more than 50 years, coming here from Ohio. He is survived by four children, Mrs. Porter Ferguson, at whose home he died, Mrs. C. J. Garber of Cleveland, Earl Hayes of Rich Valley and Ray Hayes of Detroit, and several grandchildren.

BERNE-Word has been received here of the death Thursday of Mrs. G. F. Heffelbower, 82, at the Methodist Home at Chelsey, Mich. She was a native of Berne and was the former Rosina Wittwer. Surviving are a daughter, three sons and a brother, Arthur Wittwer of Florida, formerly of Fort Wayne. Rites are today at Chelsey and burial is there. (Sat. Dec. 13, 1962)

Mrs. Alice Henderson, 50, 2723 Taylor Street, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at Elm Hall, Mich., where she was visiting. Funeral services and burial took place there Monday. Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Portland, May 21 – Funeral services for John P. Henisa, 75, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Baird Chapel in charge of Rev. A. N. Shockney. Interment will be in the Ridgeville Cemetery. Mrs. Henisa died suddenly this morning at his home 11 miles southeast of Portland of heart disease. William A. "Bill" Herr

William "Bill" A. Herr, 88, Bluffton, IN. formerly of Montpelier, IN, passed away at 5:15 PM on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton, IN. He was born on Thursday, October 17, 1929, in South Whitley, IN. William "Bill" was a 1947 graduate of Montpelier High School. He retired from the Air Force after serving his country for 21 years. He served in the Administrative Branch of the military. He then was a partner of CD Neff & Son Garage for several years. He and his wife, Barbara then opened Herr Grocery. He was a member of the American Legion Post #156 in Montpelier, and of the Elks in Bluffton, IN. Loving Survivors Include his Wife - Barbara I. Mary Margaret (Barry) Hickey

Mrs. Mary Margaret Hickey, aged 57, of 230 East Masterson Avenue, died at 11:45 o’clock Wednesday night at St. Catherine’s Hospital, East Chicago, where she had been a patient for the past three months. Death was due to complications and Mrs. Hickey had been ill for three years. She was born in Fort Wayne and lived here her entire life. She was educated at the Cathedral Parochial School and St. Augustine’s Academy. She was married in the Cathedral to William Hickey who survives her. Other survivors include a daughter, Marie E. Hickey, superintendent of St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, and a brother, E. J. Barry of Fort Wayne. The body has been removed to Getz & Cahill Funeral Home and friends may call after 2 o’clock this afternoon. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Amelia (Punschke) Hochsted

Centerville, Mich., May 21 – Mrs. Amelia Hochsted, 75, a resident of this vicinity for the past 57 years, died today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Daniels, in this village. Mrs. Hochsted was a member of the Centerville Methodist Church, the Ladies’ Aid and the Centerville Grange. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Earl Daniels of this place, Mrs. John Jacobs of Charlotte and Mrs. Lester Meyers and Mrs. Robert Dunton of Battle Creek; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Ruttkowski of Pontiac and two brothers, Albert and Adolph Punschke of Jackson. Kendallville, May 24 – Mrs. Mary Hoffman, 83, died today at the Wogoman Home for the Aged in this city after a long illness. Born in Morrow County, O., she came to Green Township, Noble County in 1876 and had resided here continuously since. Surviving are five sons, Thurlow and George of Green Township, Orlo of Garrett, Walter of Roanoke and Carl of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. Zura Foster of Mishawaka and Mrs. Berniece Myers of this city; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Everett Eugene Holloway

HOLD SUICIDE’S FUNERAL TODAY
Syracuse, May 27 – Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm (DST) Tuesday afternoon for Everett Eugene Holloway, 71, who took his own life Sunday by shooting himself with a shotgun. The rites will be held at the Holloway home and interment will be in the Syracuse Cemetery. According to Dr. Leslie A. Laird, County Coroner, Holloway had been despondent over ill health. The body was found in the garage at the home shortly after the shot was heard. For the past 50 years, the deceased had served as a guide in the lake territory of Kosciusko County. Surviving are the widow, a son, Hallie Holloway of Syracuse; two daughters, Mrs. Jesse Zerbe of Syracuse and Mrs. Eloise Rogers of South Bend; and a sister, Mrs. Otto Haney of Florida.

Samuel Page Hood

Samuel Page “Sam” Hood, 87 of Fort Wayne died Monday November 20, 2017 at Parkview Randalia Hospice in Fort Wayne. He was born July 15, 1930 in Fort Wayne to Page M and Harriet (Spindler) Hood and they have both passed away. Sam was a 1948 graduate of New Haven High School and attended Purdue University. He was a lifelong farmer and served in the National Guard. He was also a former DeKalb Hospital Board member. He married Janis Hayes on June 12, 1955 in Ligonier and she survives. He is also survived by 2 sons and a daughter, Steven (Lynn) Hood of Lakeland, FL, Sandy (Dick) Altman of Hicksville, OH and Stuart (Abbie) Hood of Garrett. There are 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be 2 pm Wednesday Nov. 22, 2017 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, IN with Pastor Stephen Buckner officiating. South Whitley, Jan. 13 -Ira M. Howenstine, 74, who was in the ice business here for many years died late today at his home here following an illness of three months. Delphos, O., May 24 – Nicholas Hummer, 81, a resident of Delphos, died at the Oak Hill Sanitarium in Green Springs, O. this morning following an illness of a year. He was a retired carpenter. His wife, Helen, preceded him in death on March 25, 1939. Surviving are 12 children, Herman of Long Beach, Cal.; Mrs. August Scharf of Knox, Ind.; Alfred, Raymond, Mrs. M. P. Patton, Mrs. E. J. Stephen Ignace II, 72, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 in Fort Wayne. Born in Derby, CT, Stephen worked as a software engineer with Raytheon for 46 years, retiring in 2011. He was a member of Purdue Alumni. Stephen received his bachelors from Indiana Tech, and then attended Purdue University where he received his Master's Degree. He loved his grandchildren, enjoyed drawing, building model rockets, and reading. Frederick G. Ingram

Frederick G. Ingram, 76, passed away on December 4, 2017. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN on May 15, 1941, the son of the late Charles and Jennie Ingram. Fred served in the US Navy as an E5 Second Class Radar Man until 1968. He retired from B.F. Goodrich in 2003. Fred was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. In his spare time he enjoyed building and working on computers, electronics, and radios. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Helen Ingram; children, Terri (Edward) Brooks, Ina (Michael) Scott, Yvonne Myers; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Larry (Peggy) Ingram and Carlos (Darlene) Ingram; brother-in-law, Donald (Marilyn) Conrad. Pearless Robert "Junie" Johnson Jr., passed away on November 21, 2017. He was born in Tell City, IN, on August 2, 1936, the son of the late Pearless Robert Johnson Sr. and Margaret Howard. Junie served in the US Air Force, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1960. He enjoyed fishing, puzzles, spending time with his family. Surviving are his companion of 60 years, Margaret Shultz; children; Brian (Paula) Johnson, Steven Johnson, Todd (Lisa) Johnson, Karen (Doug) Fraley, and Theresa Maroney; step-daughter, Tracy (Daniel) Schnorr; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn Becher, Janice Tindall. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Johnson, Eugene Johnson, Jerry Johnson, and Marsha Reed. Rose Johnston, 100, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 in Fort Wayne. Born October 30, 1917 in Detroit, MI, she co-owned The Oyster Bar downtown Fort Wayne in the 1950's. Rose enjoyed sewing, cooking, and 18 holes of golf with her friends at Pine Valley Golf Course. For years she walked miles each day at Fort Meyer's Beach. Her family always looked forward to going to Gran's on Sunday for her special Italian dinner. She will be greatly missed. Venedocia, O., May 27 - Word was received here of the death of Rev. William Jones, 69, of Denver, Colo., who died following a heart attack at the Presbyterian Hospital at Denver. Funeral services and burial were held this afternoon at Denver. Rev. Jones served as pastor of the Salem Presbyterian Church and Zion Welsh Church in York Township for 10 years, moving in 1933 to San Diego, Cal. Several years ago he accepted the pastorate at Denver. Surviving are his widow, two sons and a daughter.

Judith S. Kaminski, 77, died Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Parkview Hospice. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Judith retired from the nursing staff at the Allen County Jail after 17 years. Judith is survived by children, Michele Anderson of Fort Wayne, Tony (Larisa) Walsh of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Timothy Walsh of Houston, Texas and Christina Sailors of Fargo, North Dakota; 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Ryan Matthew Kelly

Ryan Matthew Kelly, 24, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ryan is the son of Matthew and Debra (Heckman) Kelly. Ryan attended Homestead High School and Herron School of Art in Indianapolis. He had been working at Kelly Box and Kelly Advertising. Ryan had so many gifts, one being his abilities in art. He enjoyed drawing, creating sculptures, and surrounding himself with art. Ryan had a fun-loving sense of humor that always kept his family and friends laughing. Ryan enjoyed being outdoors, riding his bike, skateboarding, snowboarding, being at the lake, and vacationing with his family on Hilton Head Island. He had a great passion for music. One thing was certain Ryan had a great love for his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Surviving are his parents Matthew and Debra Kelly of Fort Wayne; siblings Sara (Steven) Ross of Fort Wayne, Angie (Chris) Pheifer of Bloomington, Andy (Jenna) Kelly of Denver, CO, Molly (Scott Cicero) Kelly of Indianapolis; nieces and nephews, Sawyer and Levi Ross, Fiona, Viggo, and Catalina Pheifer. Scott Allen Kemerer, passed away on November 20, 2017. He was born in Paulding, OH on May 25, 1969. Scott enjoyed listening to Rock n Roll and Heavy Metal music, and attending concerts. He also enjoyed watching wrestling, and singing karaoke. Surviving are his mother, Diane Sliger; loving companion, Mitsy Durham; brothers, Mark (Julie) Kemerer, David Kemerer; niece, Zoe Kemerer; several aunts and uncles; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael David Kemerer. Funeral service will take place on Monday, November 27th at 11AM at D.O. Ferman Kepler

LaGrange, Jan. 12 -Ferman Kepler, 65, died this morning at his home in Ontario. He suffered a heart attack Thursday. Mr. Kepler was born at Butler, but had lived in Ontario many years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Minnie Kepler; three daughters, Mrs. Jasper Miller of Valentine, Mrs. Earl Deter of Ashley and Miss Vernor Kepler at home and three grandchildren. The body is at Caton Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be Monday at 2 pm at the Kepler residence with burial in the Ontario Cemetery [LaGrange Co, IN].

Louise Avilla King, 97, of Montpelier, IN, passed away at Signature Health Care in Bluffton, IN. on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 10:43 AM. She was born on Tuesday, March 30, 1920, in Blackford Co., IN. She married William King on Saturday, March 31, 1944 in Montpelier. Louise graduated from Montpelier High School. She had worked at Franklin Electric for 38 years. She was a member of the Millard-Brown American Legion Auxiliary, and the Montpelier Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary. Louise attended the First Baptist Church in Montpelier. Survivors Include her Husband - William Edward King, Montpelier, IN., Son - Terry E. Joy Marie Kirkpatrick, 63, of Converse, IN, passed away at 9:08PM on Friday January 12, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born on September 2, 1954, in Marion, IN to Joseph Frank & Bessie (Ditton) Kirkpatrick. Joy was a graduate of Marion High School, she formerly worked and retired from RCA in Marion from 1997-2005. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting knick-kacks and getting her nails done. Joy loved shopping and wearing nice clothes, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Van Buren American Legion Post #368. Mrs. Lucy Ann Klinger, 86, widow of Allen W. Klinger, died at 3:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jay Garman, on State Road No. 427, 12 miles north of the city. Mrs. Klinger, a life-long resident of Allen County, was born in Washington Township. Surviving, in addition to the daughter are two sons, William F. and Allen H. Klinger, both of Fort Wayne; a brother, Frank Golden of Auburn; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home. At 4:30 o’clock this afternoon it will be returned to the Garman residence, where funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday. Burial will be in the Hatfield Cemetery.

Clarence Vance Knight, 41, a salesman for the R. M. Kaough Company of this city for the last 21 years, died of heart disease about 4:45 pm yesterday at his home, 1015 Pasadena Drive. He was widely known in Fort Wayne and vicinity, served in the World War and was a member of the American Legion Post at Bluffton and the United Commercial Travelers. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ida Ludwig Knight; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oras A. Knight of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Mrs. L. O. Pope of this city and Mrs. Vesta Wrenne of Altanta, Ga.; three brothers, E. Wendell Knight and Detrich Knight of this city and Neil H. Knight of Newcastle. The body was taken to Klaehn & Sons Funeral Home.

Charles Hiram Knox

Sturgis, Mich., May 22 – Charles Hiram Knox, 91, last member of one of the oldest families of this city, died today at the home of his son, Earl Knox, after being in failing health for the past four years. Knox was the son of the first minister of the local Methodist Church, his father having settled here in 1832. Knox was a farmer until 1891, when he moved to Sturgis. Surviving are three sons, Clyde of Toledo, Earl and Charles of this city. Friends are being received at the Moon Funeral Home where services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock with Rev. O. R. Grattan officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Margaret "Peggy" Koester, 92, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, and the Marians. Surviving are her seven sons, Bill, Jim (Maureen), Bob (Lynn), Rick, Dennis (Betty), Brian (Cindy), and Kevin (Sue); three daughters, Maureen Babbs, Kathleen Botteron, Beth Anne (Tony) Mohr; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. William Koester. Celina, O., May 20 – Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Bertke Kremer, 56, of Maria Stein, who died last night of pneumonia at the Otis Hospital here, will be held Thursday at 9 am at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery at Maria Stein. KUHN FUNERAL TO BE ON SATURDAY - Widow of Frederick T. Kuhn Dies At Dayton Hospital
Mrs. Marie Kuhn, 82, widow of F. T. Kuhn, residing a short distance south of Chattanooga, Ohio, on Rockford route 1, died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday at College Hill hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She had been bedfast three weeks and death was caused by arteriosclerosis and pneumonia. She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga community. Mrs. Kuhn was born Nov. 28, 1872, in Liberty township, Mercer county, Ohio, the daughter of Phillip and Margaret Miller Linn. She was married October 24, 1901 to Frederick T. Kuhn, at Chattanooga. He preceded in death in 1949. Surviving are two sons, Clarence E. Kuhn and Hugo W. Kuhn, both at home; three daughters, (cut off)
