Connie 19 Oct 1999 (BODLE, HARRIS) I am searching for family members of Hugh BODLE and wife, Julia. They were in the 1850 Ohio County, IN census. Listed in the household are Elizabeth 24, Joseph 23, Jane Ann17, Mary 15, William 12, Sarah M. 10, Harriett 8, and Caroline 4. I believe there were 2 other brothers, James W. who probably married and away from the home as he was born in 1825 and Hugh G. Bodle who was no born until 1854. James married Sophia W. HARRIS June 12, 1847 in Switzerland Co. Would like information on the BODLE family and the HARRIS FAMILY. Thanks ahead of time for any help or direction you can give.

Lois Louden 6 Oct 1999 (LOWDEN/LOUDEN) I am researching the Lowden/Louden Family of Ohio County Indiana. I have found the spelling of Louden in all forms. But it is listed on the marriage record and census as Lowden. In the marriage index I found James Louden married Amanda Moreland, August 1846, Ohio Co. IN. Wm Gerard JP. I believe this to be the same Lowden to show up in the Boone Co. Ky census in 1870. This census shows only Mandy as HOH and a list of children. Dau: America age 21, Son: Richard age 19, Son: James M age 14, These children were born in Indiana. Mandy had more children, Son: John M age 10, Dau: Margaret H age 8, Dau: Nancy age 6, Dau: Mary age 2. I believe James may have died between 1868 and the time the census was taken. The census also says, America married a Wm Lacy age 22 in Indiana, and they are living with the mother.Richard Lowden is my husband's great grandfather. I know there was more of the Louden family in Indiana, but this is the first solid clue I've found. I would be very greatful for any information on this family.

Mike Schrink 25 Sept 1999 (SCHRENK) I am searching for my enigmatic ancestor, Ignatius Schrenk. Ignace was born 2/8/1825 and migrated to Jennings County Indiana by June of 1856 when his oldest daughter was baptized in the St. >Joseph Cathlic Church here. I am sure he had a stop-off in Ohio but don't know where. We "THINK" some of his brothers and sisters may have stayed in that area for they do not appear on the 1860 census for Jackson, Jennings, Washington Counties. If anyone has come across a Schrenk in your search, would you please notify me?

Julia Ryden 15 Sept 1999 (SCAGGS, GROWLEY, VAN OSDOL) My great grandmother was Susan O. Scaggs. I find her and her family intact on the Ohio County, Indiana 1860 census extracted here:Riley Scaggs age 58 white male farmer b. in VA. Mary Scaggs age 48 b. in VA (I know that she was Miss Mary Ann Growley and that she married Riley in 1836 in Dearborn Co., IN and that an Elizabeth Growley was married to Nathan Van Osdol that same year in Dearborn Co.) David Scaggs age 22 white male farmer b. IN William Scaggs age 18 white male farmer b. IN Elizabeth Scaggs age 16 in school b. IN Vancroley Scaggs age 14 in school b. IN,Susan Scaggs age 12 in school b. IN Lida Scaggs age 8 in school b. IN George Scaggs age 5 in school b. IN Margaret Jane age 3 b. IN By 1865 the Scaggs family is scattered. I found guardianship papers filed on behalf of Susan Scaggs signed by a William Van Osdol and David H. Scaggs among court records of Whiteside County, IL. These papers make no mention of the other Scaggs' children but state that Mary Ann Scaggs is deceased. I do not have a grave site for her in either Whiteside Co. IL or in Ohio Co. IN. Also, I don't know of any other Scaggs buried in either place. I do not find any of them on the 1865 IL state census, but it has many illegible pages.

Later I found that Riley Scaggs and David H. Scaggs had gone to Johnson Co. NE where they are buried--David in 1868 and Riley in 1869. No other children are mentioned in Johnson Co. NE records that I can find. I don't know when they moved there, whether there was a divorce between Riley and Mary Ann or he simply went ahead to start a new home for the family. Could there have been an epidemic that killed Mary Ann and the three younger children and perhaps the other older children? Why then did Susan NOT go to Johnson county NE where her father was? And the guardianship papers mention a sum of money held by the Ohio Co. IN courts, Nathan Van Osdol executor. Who died and left that money?

I have written all of this info to Whiteside Co. IL but would also like to research these questions here since one of you may have a clue that will help.

Sharon Richards 15 Sept 1999 (RICHARDS,CASSELETINE) I am looking for any information re: Harry L Richards, wife Edith (Mathews,Cassletine). His date of death is February 2, 1950. I believe he was born in Switzerland County, but lived much of his life in Rising Sun in Ohio County.

Beth Bassett 9 August 1999 (BASSETT)In the 1860 Census reports there is an ELIZABETH BASSETT and her family listed without a male listed as head of household. In the 1850 Ohio County, Indiana Census there is a JACOB AND ELIZABETH listed. I am searching for an ISSAC BASSETT AND SYLVANIUS BASSETT tie to this family if any. The census report stated that ELIZABETH BASSETT was born in Kentucky. I believe this family migrated to Central Indiana (Tippecanoe-Clinton) Counties by 1854 where 2 HAMMANS married BASSETTS.
