(c) 2001 Barb Wise (wisebarb@home.com) EXHIBIT "C" DEPOSITION TAKEN BEFORE A FIELD EXAMINER OF THE VETERANS AMDINISTRATION DATE: 17 MARCH 1954 DEPOSED BY: A. W. HENDRICKS PERSON DEPOSED: ELMER APPLE Elmer APPLE: I am white, male, age 42, married, occupation, farmer and iron worker, reside at R. R. 3, Paoli, Indiana. I am a son of Adam R. APPLE and a nephew of Harrison APPLE, deceased. I am not related to any of the parties in this case and have no interest in their claims against the VA. Q: Who was Addison APPLE? A: He was my father's uncle, I think. He is long since dead; so long, in fact, that I can't remember him. I don't think Woodrow HOLLEN ever worked for him. Q: Did Woodrow ever work for you or your uncle Harrison [APPLE]? A: He worked for me many years ago. He was a large boy for his age. He cut bushes, hauled out manure, and such. I don't know if he ever worked for Uncle Harrison. Q: How long did he work for you? A: I couldn't say. I'm sure it was in the summertime or in spring. He slept on the premises in our house. I don't know which year it was and I don't have any records. Q: Did you know his mother and his stepfather, James F. Davis? A: I never met either of them. Q: Did the boy ever talk to you about his home life? A: It has been so many years ago I couldn't say. Q: I have no further questions. Do you have anything to add? A: No. I certify I have read the foregoing and my statements are true to the best of my knowledge and belief. /signature of Elmer APPLE/ Subscribed and sworn to before me this 17 day of March 1954; and I hereby certify that the foregoing statement was read by affiant before signing. /signature of A.
