(c) 2001 Barb Wise (wisebarb@home.com) EXHIBIT "J" DEPOSITION TAKEN BEFORE A FIELD EXAMINER OF THE VETERANS AMDINISTRATION DATE: 17 MARCH 1954 DEPOSED BY: A. W. HENDRICKS PERSON DEPOSED: MINNIE B. NEWKIRK Minnie B. Newkirk: I am white, female, married, age 56, reside as R. R. 1, Paoli, Ind., with my husband, George W. NEWKIRK. Q: Mrs. NEWKIRK, you have heard me ask the questions concerning Woodrow W. HOLLEN of your husband. Are his answers correct as far as you know? A: Yes. Q: Can you add to what he said? A: Yes, I can say that Woodrow and his brother used to come to our house when they first moved back behind us. They were young enough that they were playing Rook, more of a child's game than a grownup's. They seemed clean, well behaved, adequately dressed, and looked healthy and well fed. In fact Woodrow was large for his age. They seemed happy and cheerful. They played these games with my two girls and my boy. Nothing was ever said to indicate that Jim DAVIS was not feeding them enough, or was misbehaving in any way or was not doing his job as a father. I am sure that had he not been doing all right, it would have come out in their talk. Q: How long did this continue? A: They did this for about two or three winters. Q: I have no further questions. Do you have anything to add? A: No. I certify that I have read the foregoing and my statements are true, to the best of my knowledge and belief. /signature of Minnie B. NEWKIRK/ Subscribed and sworn to before me this 17 day of March 1954; and I hereby certify that the foregoing statement was read by the affiant before signing. /signature of A. W.
