ENLISTED ON 30 NOVEMBER 1942. ASSIGNED TO THE USS KITKUN BAY CVE-71, A CASABLANCA CLASS ESCORT CARRIER. SAILED FROM SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA ON 1 MAY 1944 FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. PARTICIPATED IN THE FOLLOWING CAMPAIGNS: JUNE AND AUGUST 1944 SAIPAN; 15 TO 21 SEPTEMBER 1944 PELELIU; 12 TO 25 OCTOBER 1944 LEYTE GULF/SAMAR; 1 JANUARY 1945 LINGAYEN. LATE 1945 PARTICIPATED IN OPERATION MAGIC CARPET, THE RETURN OF TROOPS FROM THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. 19 OCTOBER 1945 RETURNED TO SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
